Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Gaza flotilla, which carried more than 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries. The flotilla was on a mission to deliver life-saving aid to Palestinians under siege.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the incident as a “cowardly act” and called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists. He stressed that the Gaza flotilla’s only mission was to provide food, medicine, and essential supplies to the people of Gaza.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said the international community must take urgent action. “The barbarity must end. Peace must be given a chance and humanitarian aid must reach those in need,” he stated.
The Global Sumud Gaza flotilla originally set sail with nearly 40 vessels. Reports confirmed that Israeli naval forces intercepted part of the fleet, but nearly 30 boats managed to continue toward Gaza. At the time of the interception, the vessels were just 85 kilometers from the Gaza coast.
The incident has triggered international backlash. Colombian President Gustavo Petro condemned the attack and announced the expulsion of Israel’s diplomatic delegation from Bogotá. He described the assault as “a new international crime by Benjamin Netanyahu.”
Petro also declared the termination of Colombia’s free trade agreement with Israel. In addition, he revealed plans for Colombia’s Foreign Ministry to pursue legal action against the Israeli government. Calling on international lawyers to support the effort, he referred to Netanyahu as a “worldwide criminal who must be captured.”
Pakistan, along with several other countries, has urged global organizations to intervene. The demand for justice and the safe release of the Gaza flotilla activists continues to gain momentum worldwide.
