Hamas has accepted several parts of United States President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. However, the group noted that some elements of the plan still need further negotiations.
Trump responded early Saturday, urging Israel to “immediately stop bombing Gaza.” He added that Hamas appeared “ready for a lasting peace.” This marks a potential step toward easing the nearly two-year conflict in the region.
Despite a relative decrease in Israeli bombardment, a drone strike hit a tent in al-Mawasi, southern Gaza. Two children were killed, and several others were injured, a source at the Nasser Medical Complex confirmed. These are the first reported casualties since Trump instructed Israel to halt attacks following Hamas’s positive response.
Israel stated it is preparing to implement the “first stage of Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.” The military has been instructed to reduce offensive activity as part of the immediate implementation. Israeli media reported that this step follows Hamas’s agreement in principle to several key points of the 20-point plan.
On the ground in Gaza, Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud reported unusual quietness around midnight in Deir el-Balah. Smoke still rises in northern Gaza, and minor military movements continue, but the intensity of fire has decreased significantly. Mahmoud said this reduction could mark the beginning of a full halt to bombardment, although the timing remains uncertain.
Hamas submitted its response to Trump’s plan on Friday. The group agreed to release all Israeli captives according to the proposed exchange formula. Hamas also expressed readiness to negotiate immediately through mediators to finalize details.
Additionally, Hamas is prepared to hand over Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian technocratic body, supported by Arab and Islamic partners. The group did not address disarmament, one of Trump’s key demands, but emphasized its willingness to cooperate on other aspects of the plan.
The announcement represents a cautious but significant step toward de-escalation. Both Hamas and Israel have shown initial compliance with the proposed measures, signaling a possible reduction in hostilities in the coming days.
