In one of his most open and personal interviews yet, Prince William revealed that he plans to introduce “change for good” to the British monarchy when he becomes king. The Prince of Wales made the comments during a candid conversation with actor Eugene Levy for Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveller, filmed at Windsor Castle.
Prince William said he intends to modernize royal traditions while maintaining their core values. “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda,” he told Levy. “Change for good, and I embrace that. I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me—the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical, but changes that I think need to happen.”

The prince, who arrived to meet Levy on an electric scooter, gave him a guided tour of Windsor Castle. The two discussed family, history, and the challenges of balancing royal responsibilities with personal life. Reflecting on the weight of royal history, Prince William said, “If you’re not careful, history can be a real weight and an anchor around you. It’s important to live for the here and now.”
He also spoke about his approach to tradition and reform, saying, “There are points when you look at tradition and go, is that still fit for purpose today? Are we still doing and having the most impact we could be having? So, I like to question things.”
The conversation turned emotional when William spoke about his family, especially as both King Charles and Princess Kate are undergoing cancer treatment. “Stuff to do with family overwhelms me quite a bit,” he admitted. “Worry or stress around the family side of things—that does overwhelm me.”
During their chat at a local Windsor pub, where William had a pint of sweet cider and Levy enjoyed a Guinness, the prince opened up about raising his children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — amid difficult times. “We try to make sure we give them the security and safety that they need,” he said. “We’re a very open family. We talk about things that bother us and things that trouble us.”
Although the interview avoided the topic of Prince Harry, William briefly reflected on their shared experiences growing up in the royal spotlight. “I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I grew up in,” he said. “I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress.”
Eugene Levy later told the BBC that he was surprised by William’s candor. “To me, it was just a conversation. I wasn’t thinking about it as a scoop. He was telling me his thoughts, and it was totally surreal.”

As the interview wrapped up, Prince William reflected on his purpose and the resilience his family has shown over the past year. “Life is sent to test us. It can be challenging, but overcoming that is what makes us who we are,” he said. “I’m so proud of my wife and my father for how they’ve handled everything. My children have managed brilliantly as well.”
The conversation offered an unusually personal glimpse into the future king’s mindset — one focused on empathy, openness, and a deep commitment to evolving the monarchy for a new generation.
