PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Sanam Javaid has reportedly been detained once again, this time from a busy road in Peshawar, according to local media sources.
Eyewitnesses stated that two unidentified cars suddenly blocked her vehicle. Moments later, unknown men forcefully took Sanam Javaid out and pushed her into another car before driving away.
PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram shared details of the incident on social media, describing it as a “brazen daylight abduction.” He claimed that Sanam Javaid was “forcibly removed from her vehicle” in front of her friends, calling it an alarming act against political freedom.
The alleged arrest quickly went viral online, sparking anger among PTI supporters. Many social media users launched campaigns demanding her immediate release and condemning what they called an “unjust targeting” of political workers.
So far, no official statement has been issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), or the National Counter Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA). Authorities have neither confirmed nor denied her detention, leaving her whereabouts unknown.
PTI leaders strongly criticized the incident, calling it a violation of basic democratic rights. They warned that Pakistan is witnessing a rise in the intimidation and silencing of political voices.
It is worth mentioning that Sanam Javaid and her sister, Falak Javed, have faced multiple cases linked to the May 9 events and alleged violations of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Falak Javed was also reportedly detained just a few days ago.
The recurring arrests of PTI activists, including Sanam Javaid, have raised serious concerns about political freedom and the safety of social media influencers in Pakistan.
