Despite political uncertainty over the resignation of outgoing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the KP Assembly session to elect a new provincial chief executive has officially begun.
During the session, Gandapur addressed the assembly and extended his “advance congratulations” to Sohail Afridi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) nominee for the post. His remarks were met with loud desk-thumping from treasury members, signaling strong party unity despite recent tensions.
The outgoing chief minister reaffirmed his loyalty to PTI founder Imran Khan, stating that the party’s “fight for justice” would continue under his leadership. Gandapur also expressed pride in stepping down in accordance with Khan’s instructions, noting that he had submitted his resignation on October 8 as directed.
Gandapur’s resignation had stirred political debate in the province, with opposition parties questioning the process and PTI leaders defending it as a strategic move.
