A tragic road accident in Malakand claimed at least 13 lives when a speeding truck overturned on the Swat Motorway on Thursday. According to motorway police officials, the victims included women and children who died on the spot due to the severe impact of the crash.
DSP Noor-ul-Amin confirmed that the accident occurred because of overspeeding. Several others sustained injuries and were rushed to Batkhela Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities are still working to identify the deceased and the injured, as initial reports did not provide details about their identities.
The local administration and rescue teams quickly reached the scene after receiving the report of the accident. Emergency response units and police helped clear the wreckage to ensure smooth traffic flow on the motorway. This latest tragedy in Malakand follows another devastating road accident that occurred earlier in the week. In that incident, 26 people lost their lives when a passenger bus carrying wedding guests from Astore, Gilgit-Baltistan, to Chakwal plunged into a river near the Thalichi Bridge.
According to officials, there were 27 people on board the bus, and only the bride, identified as Malaika, survived the crash. Rescue operations are still ongoing, with help from local residents, police, and emergency teams.
Deputy Commissioner Astore, Muhammad Tariq, confirmed that 14 bodies have been recovered and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Astore. The ill-fated vehicle has also been retrieved from the river.
