Imran Khan’s Bold Offer from Jail: “I Can Fix Pak-Afghan Tensions; If Freed on Parole”

Imran Khan’s Bold Offer from Jail: “I Can Fix Pak-Afghan Tensions; If Freed on Parole”

ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly offered to help resolve the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan if he is released on parole.

The proposal was conveyed by Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan and Noreen Khan, while addressing journalists amid rising tensions between the two countries. They said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was deeply saddened by the recent border clashes and emphasized the need for peace and dialogue.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, PTI’s current chairman, also confirmed the statement later in the day, adding that Khan’s offer comes at a crucial time when hostilities have intensified across the border.

Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since August 2023, is currently serving a sentence at Adiala Jail in a £190 million corruption case. He also faces several other cases, including those related to the May 9 protests under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The offer came as Pakistan and Afghanistan faced escalating border violence in recent days. Pakistani forces launched retaliatory strikes after Afghan troops engaged in unprovoked firing, leading to multiple casualties. Reports suggest that over 200 militants were eliminated during Pakistan’s counteroffensive.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed that Pakistan agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire starting Wednesday evening after Kabul requested a temporary truce.

Khan’s sisters further stated that their brother was disturbed by the expulsion of Afghan nationals from Pakistan, calling for a more humane approach.

During his time in office, Imran Khan was often criticized by rival parties, including the PML-N and PPP, for advocating talks with banned militant groups. However, the PTI founder has consistently maintained that dialogue is essential for lasting peace in the region.

As the ceasefire continues, Khan’s unexpected offer has reignited political debate over his potential role in future peace negotiations between the two neighboring countries.
