Hamas and other major Palestinian factions have agreed to form an independent committee to manage post-war Gaza. The decision came after a meeting held in Cairo, where representatives from several groups discussed the future administration of the Gaza Strip.
According to a joint statement published on the Hamas website, the factions agreed to hand over the running of Gaza to a temporary Palestinian committee made up of independent technocrats. The committee will handle daily governance and provide basic services in coordination with Arab states and international organizations.
The factions also expressed their intention to build a unified stance to address ongoing challenges to the Palestinian cause. The joint statement emphasized cooperation among all Palestinian forces to ensure stability and coordination in the next phase of Gazaβs recovery.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said efforts were underway to create an international stabilization force for Gaza. The force, part of a broader peace plan, aims to maintain security, train local police, and oversee the demilitarization process. Rubio noted that Israelβs approval of participating nations would be essential, amid reports of opposition to Turkish involvement.
In addition to administrative reforms, the Palestinian factions called for revitalizing the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). They urged all political forces to agree on a national strategy, reaffirming the PLOβs role as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. Hamas, however, is not part of the PLO, which remains dominated by Fatah.
Sources revealed that delegations from Hamas and Fatah met in Cairo to discuss the next phase of a U.S.-backed ceasefire plan. Both sides agreed to continue meetings to strengthen internal unity and face Israeli policies collectively.
Despite their long-standing rivalry, Hamas and Fatah are now working toward a unified approach for Gazaβs future. Hamas, which took control of Gaza in 2007, has clarified that it does not seek to govern the territory after the war but remains firm on maintaining its resistance forces.
