Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, revealed that the egg-stained shawl from a recent incident has been sold for Rs5 million. She said the money raised through the sale was donated directly to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.
According to Aleema, the buyer was an overseas supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who transferred the funds straight to the hospital’s account. The egg-stained shawl will now be sent to the buyer as a symbolic gesture of support.
The incident occurred last month outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Aleema Khan was addressing the media. Two women reportedly threw an egg at her during her talk. Police later confirmed that the women were PTI supporters who said they acted in protest after Aleema declined to respond to their questions.
Rawalpindi Police spokesperson Inspector Sajjadul Hassan stated that both women were taken into custody and moved to the Adiala Jail police post for questioning. Aleema Khan later said she was not intimidated by the attack and claimed she knew who was behind such actions.
At the time of the incident, members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance and the All Pakistan Clerk Association from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were staging a protest near the prison. Eyewitnesses said the women became frustrated when Aleema ignored their queries, prompting them to hurl eggs in anger.
The attack on Aleema Khan drew widespread condemnation. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique described the egg-stained shawl incident as “shameful and deplorable.” He linked it to a pattern of growing political intolerance in the country, recalling previous acts such as the shoe thrown at Nawaz Sharif and ink splashed at Khawaja Asif.
Rafique urged political workers to promote respect and avoid hostility, saying that no one can achieve positive results by sowing seeds of hatred.
