Punjab Launches Largest-Ever Special Eid Clean-Up Operation Across Province

Punjab has launched the largest special Eid Clean-Up Operation in the province’s history to maintain cleanliness during Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. The campaign began on the first day of Eid under the supervision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

According to reports, the provincial government introduced a live monitoring system to oversee sanitation activities across Punjab. For the first time, eight departments and reporting sources have been connected through a unified mechanism to provide real-time updates about cleanliness arrangements.

Officials said the chief minister is personally monitoring the Eid Clean-Up Operation through the digital reporting system. Deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners were also directed to remain active in the field to supervise sanitation work in both urban and rural areas.

Under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, special sanitation teams were deployed in major districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sahiwal.

Workers started cleaning operations early in the morning in streets, neighborhoods, mosques, Eid grounds, graveyards, markets, and major roads. Authorities said roads leading to mosques and Eid prayer grounds were washed and cleaned before Eid prayers.

Officials also carried out lime marking in different areas to improve hygiene conditions during the Eid holidays. Special teams were assigned to monitor markets and residential areas to stop people from throwing animal waste in public places.

Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against violators. People disposing of sacrificial waste improperly could face fines of up to Rs50,000.

As part of the Clean-Up Operation, sanitation workers are washing roads and streets with disinfectants. Rose water is also being sprayed in several areas to control foul smells and improve the environment.

The Punjab government established “Suthra Punjab” camps in all 4,000 union councils across the province. Officials confirmed that more than 176,000 sanitation workers are participating in the operation. An additional 8,000 workers were hired specifically for Eid-ul-Adha cleanliness duties.

More than 40,000 vehicles are also being used during the campaign. Authorities hired another 12,000 loader rickshaws to collect and transport animal waste from residential and commercial areas.

According to officials, smaller union councils received two loader rickshaws, while medium and larger councils were provided with additional vehicles based on population size and expected waste levels.

The government also distributed around 12.5 million environmentally friendly waste bags door to door. The initiative aims to help citizens safely dispose of sacrificial remains during Eid-ul-Adha.
