Another Airline Launches Karachi–Islamabad Route with Rs14,000 Introductory Fare

Air travel between Karachi and Islamabad is set to become more competitive as another private Airline prepares to begin operations on one of Pakistan’s busiest domestic routes. South Air has announced the launch of its first scheduled commercial flights, with one-way fares starting at just over Rs14,000.

The Airline has opened bookings for its inaugural flight, which is scheduled to take off on July 16, 2026. The new service marks South Air’s official entry into Pakistan’s commercial aviation market.

According to the airline’s booking system, the first flight will depart from Karachi at 7:30 am and arrive in Islamabad at 11:40 am. However, the journey will not be nonstop. The aircraft will make a scheduled stop in Bahawalpur before continuing to the capital.

Because of the stopover, the total travel time will be 4 hours and 10 minutes. This is longer than existing direct flights between Karachi and Islamabad, which usually take much less time.

South Air plans to operate its domestic services using ATR 72 turboprop aircraft. The aircraft is commonly used for regional and short-distance routes because it offers lower operating costs and good fuel efficiency.

The Airline has introduced three economy fare options for passengers. The lowest-priced Economy Basic ticket starts at Rs14,218. This package does not include any checked baggage.

Passengers who choose the Economy Value fare will pay Rs15,792. This option includes a 20-kilogram checked baggage allowance, making it suitable for travelers carrying more luggage.

Meanwhile, the Economy Premium category has already sold out ahead of the inaugural flight. The early sellout suggests there is strong interest in the new carrier even before its commercial operations officially begin.

Unlike several existing airlines that offer direct jet services on the Karachi-Islamabad route, South Air’s first scheduled service will operate through Bahawalpur. While the additional stop increases travel time, it also allows the airline to connect another important city with its growing domestic network.

The company says its long-term strategy is to improve domestic air connectivity across Pakistan. Rather than focusing only on major city pairs, the airline aims to link large urban centers with destinations that currently have fewer scheduled flight options.

Pakistan’s domestic aviation market has become increasingly competitive in recent years. New carriers are looking to attract travelers by offering affordable fares and expanding route networks. The launch of South Air adds another choice for passengers traveling between the country’s financial capital and federal capital.

With ticket prices beginning at around Rs14,000, the new Airline hopes to appeal to both business and leisure travelers. As commercial operations begin later this month, the success of its inaugural flights could play an important role in shaping its future expansion plans across Pakistan.
