Kundi Seeks PM's Intervention Over 'Unconstitutional' Wheat Supply Curbs on KP

Kundi seeks PM’s intervention over ‘unconstitutional’ wheat supply curbs on KP after raising strong concerns about the growing food supply challenges in the province. In a formal letter, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi told Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that limiting wheat transportation into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa violates economic rights and creates serious risks for the people.

Kundi said the province depends heavily on wheat delivered from other provinces, especially Punjab. He warned that ongoing restrictions are harmful and against the spirit of cooperation between provinces. He stated that any blockade or delay can lead to higher prices, reduced availability and hardships for the public.

The governor also said these wheat supply limits appear to go against the Constitution. He cited the right of free movement and inter-provincial trade guaranteed under Article 151. He insisted that “unconstitutional” controls damage trust between the federation and provinces.

Kundi seeks PM’s intervention over ‘unconstitutional’ wheat supply curbs on KP, arguing that the current situation may force people to rely on smuggled or illegal supplies. Such practices can increase the burden on common citizens and distort the market. He urged the federal government to immediately remove unnecessary restrictions and allow wheat delivery based on KP’s actual demand.

Officials in KP say the province produces only a small portion of the total wheat it consumes every year. Without a smooth supply from Punjab and other regions, there is a fear that flour shortages could occur in several districts.

Meanwhile, Punjab authorities reportedly deny placing a complete ban. They say they are only regulating the movement to control market stability. However, KP leaders believe the allowed quota is far below their requirement.

As the disagreement continues, food security experts warn that delays in resolving the issue may result in panic buying and price hikes. Kundi hopes the prime minister will take quick steps to protect citizens and restore normal wheat supply operations.
