No Cash at Airports? Pakistan’s Bold New Move Shocks Travelers!

No Cash at Airports Pakistan’s Bold New Move Shocks Travelers!

The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has announced a major step toward digital transformation by making all airports across the country completely cashless. This new initiative is designed to promote transparent, secure, and efficient payment systems for passengers and airport staff.

Under the cashless plan, passengers will soon be able to pay for all services — including food, retail, parking, and lounges — using digital payment methods. The PAA, in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan, will install QR codes at all major airports to enable easy and contactless transactions.

All airport vendors, service counters, and retail outlets are being instructed to adopt the cashless payment model. This will ensure smooth digital operations and minimize the use of physical currency within airport premises.

First Phase Targets Major Airports

The first phase of the project will roll out at three of Pakistan’s busiest airports — Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Once operational, the system will expand to Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot airports in the second phase. Officials confirmed that the ultimate goal is to implement digital payment systems at all airports nationwide.

Boosting Efficiency and Transparency

The PAA believes that going cashless will bring multiple benefits, including faster transactions, better record-keeping, and reduced risk of theft or accounting errors. It will also minimize queues and improve customer experience, especially for travelers seeking quick and secure payment options.

Additionally, digital transactions will enhance the transparency of financial audits, ensuring compliance with the government’s broader digitalization goals.

The move is part of Pakistan’s ongoing effort to modernize its aviation infrastructure and align it with international standards. Supported by the State Bank of Pakistan, the initiative is seen as a step toward a more connected, efficient, and transparent future in air travel.
