Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan chaired the third meeting of the Committee on Pakistan-Malaysia Cooperation on Meat Export, stressing the need to strengthen Pakistanโs meat industry and ensure competitive pricing in Malaysiaโs market.
According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, the minister directed authorities to form a working group and present a final report within a week. He emphasized that all stakeholders, including the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, must work together to achieve the target of $200 million in meat export.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanvir Hussain and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan. Participants discussed various strategies to enhance meat export to Malaysia, focusing on supply chain logistics, cost control, and quality assurance for both buffalo and cow meat.
Officials reviewed CNF (Cost and Freight) pricing, cost comparisons with India, and ways to maintain Pakistanโs competitiveness while meeting Malaysiaโs quality standards. The committee highlighted the importance of selecting buffaloes aged between 14 and 18 months to align with Malaysian market preferences.
Members also discussed issues related to fluctuating market prices, private sector participation, and the need for financial incentives to sustain long-term export growth. The discussion included proposals to improve slaughterhouse and farm efficiency by reducing energy costs and adopting advanced technologies.
The committee concluded that continuous cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia, supported by both government initiatives and private sector investment, will be vital for expanding exports. By improving production efficiency and lowering costs, Pakistan aims to capture a larger share of the Malaysian Halal meat market.
Last month, Malaysia announced plans to import $200 million worth of Halal meat from Pakistan, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral trade ties and ensuring consistent growth in Pakistanโs meat export sector.
