The Punjab government has extended Section 144 to continue the complete ban on protests, rallies, sit-ins, and all similar public activities across the province. The decision aims to maintain law and order amid rising security concerns.
Under Section 144, no more than four people can gather in any public place. Officials said this limit is necessary to avoid situations that could lead to violence or unrest. The government also imposed a strict ban on the public display of weapons. The use of loudspeakers remains restricted in all districts of Punjab.
The Home Department stated that publishing or distributing provocative or hate-based material is also prohibited. Authorities warned that such content could fuel sectarian tension or disturb peace.
According to officials, the extension of Section 144 is intended to protect lives and property. Security agencies believe that terrorists may view large crowds as easy targets. They fear that public gatherings could be exploited for anti-state activities, making preventive action essential.
The restrictions, however, do not apply to routine personal events. Wedding functions, funeral prayers, and burials are exempt from the ban. Government officials on duty, members of law enforcement agencies, and courts are also allowed to operate without limitations. Loudspeakers may only be used for the call to prayer and Friday sermons.
The Home Department issued a formal notification announcing the extension of the restrictions until Saturday, November 22. District administrations have been instructed to run awareness campaigns so that citizens understand the rules and comply with them.
Authorities emphasized that the measures are temporary but crucial for public safety. They urged the public to cooperate with the government and avoid any activities that violate the order.
