ISLAMABAD – Former ICCI president and chairman of the Central Employers Federation of Pakistan, Mian Akram Farid, has expressed confidence in the new leadership of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mahmood, Akram Farid said the new team is both enthusiastic and experienced. He added that their leadership would play a vital role in addressing the economic challenges faced by the business community in Islamabad.
He noted that the business community is struggling with high interest rates, heavy taxation, inflated utility bills, and rising raw material costs. Poor infrastructure in industrial and commercial areas, along with unresolved cases with the CDA and other government bodies, were also highlighted as pressing concerns.
Farid specifically pointed out the difficulties in the construction sector, where heavy taxation has pushed the steel industry and more than 40 related industries toward collapse.
Praising the young and dynamic leadership of Sardar Tahir Mahmood, Akram Farid said his achievements in real estate and construction prove his capability. He expressed hope that Mahmood would apply his expertise to ease the difficulties of industrialists and traders in the capital.
Farid also congratulated newly elected Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Muhammad Irfan Chaudhry. He said their appointments strengthen the new ICCI team at a crucial time for businesses.
Founder Group Chairman Tariq Sadiq also spoke at the ceremony, recalling that for over 35 years, presidents from the Founder Group have worked to resolve business issues and promote exports. He noted their efforts in organizing international exhibitions to showcase Pakistani products in collaboration with embassies abroad.
The event was attended by senior business figures, including Khalid Javed, Waheed Chaudhry, Mian Shaukat Masood, Amer Waheed, Zafar Bakhtawari, Chaudhry Abdul Rauf, and others.
