KARACHI – Consumers across Pakistan are seeing major relief as Solar Prices fall sharply in the local market. Rates for small and mid-size home systems have dropped by up to Rs150,000, making solar energy more accessible for many households. The decline covers a wide range of installations, from 3kW units to larger rooftop systems.
Dealers report a strong shift in the market. They say the reduction is linked to lower import costs and improved supply of solar equipment. The change has created new opportunities for families planning to reduce electricity bills through renewable energy. Many retailers note that interest has increased as Solar Prices move downward.
A 5-kilowatt system now costs around Rs550,000. A 7-kilowatt setup is priced near Rs625,000. Larger systems have also seen significant cuts. A 10-kilowatt installation is now offered for about Rs900,000. A 12-kilowatt system is listed at roughly Rs1,050,000, while a 15-kilowatt setup is available for about Rs1,300,000. These figures apply to on-grid systems. Hybrid systems will cost more because they require batteries.
This drop in Solar Prices follows a major policy development at the federal level. The government recently halted the planned 16 percent general sales tax (GST) on solar products. The decision came only days after growing concern from consumers and industry players.
On November 27, 2025, President Asif Ali Zardari approved a review of the earlier tax order. He also directed the federal ombudsman to reconsider the issue. The move came after all power distribution companies challenged the GST. They warned that applying the tax would force them to return large sums to consumers, which could create further pressure on the energy sector.

The latest decrease in market rates and the pause on GST have given many buyers confidence to reconsider solar energy. Industry experts believe the trend may continue if supply conditions remain stable and policy support stays in place.
