Carpet Manufacturers Urged to Embrace Technology for Global Growth

LAHORE – Chairperson of the Carpet Training Institute (CTI), Ejaz-ur-Rehman, has said that technology and automation are reshaping even traditional industries like handmade carpets. He noted that modern tools, artificial intelligence, and data-driven strategies are creating new opportunities while also replacing conventional manufacturing methods.

Addressing a meeting of hand-knitted carpet manufacturers and exporters, Ejaz-ur-Rehman stressed the need to adapt operations in line with global demand. He said real-time market data and analytics could help boost exports by aligning with consumer expectations.

The meeting focused on current challenges facing the handmade carpet sector, strategies to align with shifting international trends, and preparations for the upcoming international exhibition in Lahore next month.

Ejaz-ur-Rehman highlighted that today’s buyers value both quality and craftsmanship. With rising incomes worldwide, the demand for handmade carpets is expected to grow. He added that the popularity of online shopping has allowed international buyers to directly connect with carpet manufacturers, increasing visibility and global reach.

He further stated that the global market for hand-knotted carpets is projected to reach $16.9 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.3%. The Asia-Pacific region will remain the largest producer, led by Pakistan, India, China, and Nepal.

North America and Europe continue to be major buyers, especially for sustainable and unique home décor products. At the same time, interest is growing in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, where consumers are recognizing the cultural and artistic value of handmade carpets.

Ejaz-ur-Rehman expressed optimism that the international exhibition in Lahore this October will help carpet manufacturers connect with global buyers. He said the event would provide a strong platform to develop new strategies, strengthen exports, and showcase Pakistan’s craftsmanship in the global marketplace.
