FBR Partners With LUMS To Train Tax Officers In Advanced Skills

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has signed a landmark agreement with Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to launch a customised Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programme for tax officers. The initiative aims to enhance the professional capacity of Pakistan’s tax administration.

The signing ceremony was held at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad and presided over by FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial. Senior FBR officers, Members of the Board, Director Generals of Inland Revenue and Customs Academies, and officers from the Transformation Delivery Unit (TDU) attended. Representing LUMS, Provost Dr Tariq Jadoon and Dean of Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) Dr Adeel Zafar were present.

In his remarks, Chairman Langrial praised both FBR and LUMS teams for designing a rigorous diploma programme. He noted that the training will equip tax officers with critical skills in digitalisation, data analytics, and modern tax administration. Member (Administration/HR) Mohammad Iqbal highlighted the programme’s key areas, including advanced accounting, trade analytics, international taxation, e-commerce, digital economy, and supply chain management.

Dr Adeel Zafar of LUMS reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring the programme’s success. He expressed confidence that the collaboration between FBR and LUMS will have a lasting impact on the professional development of tax officers in Pakistan.

The PGD Programme marks a major milestone under FBR’s wider Transformation Plan, which focuses on modernising federal tax administration through operational expertise, digitalisation, and advanced enforcement measures. The programme is set to commence on October 20, 2025, with 51 probationary FBR officers participating in the first batch.

Officials say this first-of-its-kind programme will provide tax officers with globally relevant knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to tackle emerging challenges in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and compliance management effectively.

By investing in advanced training for its workforce, FBR demonstrates its commitment to building a modern, efficient, and highly skilled tax administration in Pakistan.
