Foodpanda to Cease Operations in Thailand by May 2025

Foodpanda has announced that it will cease operations in Thailand by May 23, 2025, ending its presence in one of Southeast Asia’s highly competitive food delivery markets.

The announcement was made through Foodpanda Thailand’s social media channels on April 23. The company cited a mismatch between the current market conditions in Thailand and its long-term strategic objectives. It expressed appreciation for the support from customers, restaurant partners, and riders throughout its operations in the country.

The decision was confirmed by Delivery Hero, Foodpanda’s parent company, which stated that this move is part of a broader strategic shift to reallocate resources. This follows similar exits from markets such as Denmark and Slovakia, where achieving operational sustainability proved challenging.

Delivery Hero emphasized its focus on the Asia Pacific region, where it sees stronger growth potential and profitability. While food delivery services will end in Thailand, a regional support team will remain to oversee operations in neighboring countries.

Reports suggest that Foodpanda faced profitability issues in Thailand for several years. Though the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily boosted demand, sustained losses and limited success from cost-cutting measures led to the decision to exit the market.

This marks a continued effort by Delivery Hero to focus on high-return markets and streamline operations across its global portfolio.
