State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a new digital platform to help small and medium-sized businesses access bank financing through a simplified online application process.
Named SMEConnect, the centralized portal will connect business owners with banks and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) offering SME financing facilities.
According to an SBP circular issued on October 29, 2026, all SME financing applications will be submitted through the new platform starting November 1, 2026.
The initiative aims to strengthen connections between businesses and financial institutions while making financing applications more accessible across Pakistan.
Under the new arrangement, applications submitted through SMEConnect will be forwarded to the relevant bank or DFI after the required verifications.
Business owners will no longer need to complete the entire initial application process through separate bank websites or portals.
What Is the SMEConnect Portal?
SMEConnect is a centralized online platform introduced by the State Bank of Pakistan for businesses seeking financing from banks and DFIs.
It provides a single digital channel for submitting SME financing applications.
The portal is designed to simplify the application process and improve access to formal banking services for businesses across the country.
Applicants can access the platform through its official website:

How to Apply for SME Financing Through SMEConnect
Business owners can use the online platform to register their accounts, provide business information and submit financing requests.
The application procedure includes the following steps.
Step 1: Create an Account
Visit the official SMEConnect website and select the registration option.
New applicants need to provide their basic information, including their name, CNIC, mobile number and email address.
Complete the required verification process to activate your account.
Step 2: Verify Your Business Bank Account
After registration, applicants need to provide their business bank account details, including the IBAN.
The system uses this information to identify the relevant financial institution.
Business owners who do not have a bank account should contact their preferred bank to understand the account-opening requirements before proceeding.
Step 3: Provide Business Information
Applicants must enter the required information about their businesses.
This may include the business name, address, registration details, NTN, annual sales and establishment date.
Business owners should ensure that all information is accurate and consistent with their official business records.
Step 4: Submit a Financing Application
After completing the required business information, applicants can proceed with their financing requests.
They should provide the requested financing amount, repayment period and preferred financing method.
Applicants interested in Islamic banking facilities can also review the available options on the platform.
Before submitting the application, carefully check all the information to avoid errors or processing delays.
Step 5: Monitor Your Application
After submission, applicants should keep their application reference details for future communication.
The relevant bank or DFI will receive the application after the necessary verification process.
Financial institutions may contact applicants if additional documents or information are required.
Applicants should follow up with the concerned bank regarding their application status and any further requirements.
Will SMEConnect Guarantee Bank Loan Approval?
No. Submitting an application through SMEConnect does not guarantee financing approval.
The platform serves as a centralized application channel. Banks and DFIs remain responsible for assessing financing requests under their applicable policies and eligibility requirements.
Financial institutions may review business performance, financial records, repayment capacity and other relevant information before making a decision.
Therefore, applicants should understand that submitting an online request is only the first stage of the financing process.
What Changes From November 1, 2026?
The SBP has directed banks and DFIs to use SMEConnect as the central platform for SME financing applications from November 1.
Under the new instructions, customers visiting bank branches to submit financing applications will be guided by branch staff to complete the digital process through SMEConnect.
Similarly, applicants attempting to apply through individual bank websites or applications will be directed to the centralized portal.
The SBP has also instructed financial institutions to display the SMEConnect link prominently on their websites and mobile applications.
Why Has SBP Introduced SMEConnect?
Access to formal financing remains important for small and medium-sized businesses seeking to expand their operations, purchase equipment and manage business activities.
Through SMEConnect, the central bank aims to improve coordination between businesses and financial institutions.
The centralized system is also expected to make the initial application process more convenient by providing businesses with a common digital platform.
Business owners across Pakistan can access the portal to explore financing opportunities offered by participating banks and DFIs.
