LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified action against businesses failing to follow digital invoicing and tax regulations. The crackdown targets restaurants, hotels and other businesses with irregular sales records and digital payments.
According to a PRA spokesperson, the authority issued notices to 250 businesses within the past 24 hours. These businesses were not connected to the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS).
The authority also fined 30 business operators for irregularities in digital payments and violations of tax laws. These measures aim to improve transparency and ensure businesses follow the required financial regulations.
Meanwhile, the PRA registered more than 50 new businesses during the same period. Enforcement operations were carried out in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Rawalpindi.
PRA Strengthens Digital Transaction Monitoring
The PRA has directed businesses to maintain accurate sales records through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System. The system helps authorities monitor transactions and identify possible irregularities.
Businesses must also comply with applicable tax laws and maintain proper financial records. The authority is taking action against those suspected of evading taxes or manipulating digital records.
Such practices can cause financial losses to the national exchequer. Improved monitoring of each Digital Transaction can help authorities identify discrepancies and strengthen tax collection.
The provincial authority is working to expand the use of digital monitoring systems. These measures are intended to improve accountability and bring more businesses into the formal tax system.
Consumers Urged to Verify Receipts
The PRA spokesperson has encouraged consumers to use the PRA Facilitation App to verify their receipts. The app can help customers check whether businesses issue valid receipts.
Citizens have also been advised to report businesses that provide unverified receipts. Consumers can submit complaints through social media platforms if businesses refuse to accept digital payments.
Public cooperation can help authorities identify violations and improve compliance with tax regulations. Customers are encouraged to keep their receipts and report suspected irregularities through the available channels.
The authority is also focusing on businesses that fail to connect with EIMS. Compliance with the system allows sales information to be monitored more effectively.
Digital Monitoring Aims to Improve Tax Compliance
According to the spokesperson, effective use of EIMS is helping prevent potential financial irregularities. It is also supporting efforts to expand the tax net across Punjab.
The provincial government continues to modernize its tax system through digital monitoring. These efforts aim to make business transactions more transparent and improve compliance with tax laws.
The growing use of Digital Transaction records can also help authorities identify differences between reported sales and actual business activity. Accurate records are essential for effective tax monitoring.
