ISLAMABAD: LPG prices in Pakistan are expected to decrease by up to Rs50 within the next one to two days. The expected reduction follows permission for Iranian LPG tankers to enter Pakistan. These tankers were loaded by October 16.
LPG Standing Committee Convener Ali Haider said the arrival of approximately 900 tankers would improve the country’s supply situation. He expects prices to start declining within the next 24 hours.
The expected reduction could provide relief to consumers facing high fuel costs. However, the final price reduction will depend on market conditions and the availability of LPG supplies.
Iranian LPG Tankers Expected to Improve Supply
Ali Haider said the arrival of Iranian LPG tankers would help increase the availability of liquefied petroleum gas across Pakistan. Improved supplies could reduce pressure on the domestic market and bring prices down.
Pakistan imported five LPG cargo ships during October, according to Ali Haider. These imports brought the country’s total LPG imports to approximately 22,000 tonnes during the month.
He said Pakistan’s daily LPG demand ranges between 12,000 and 13,000 tonnes. This demand highlights the importance of maintaining a consistent supply to meet the country’s energy needs.
Karachi accounts for a significant share of Pakistan’s LPG consumption. The city’s daily demand ranges between 4,000 and 5,000 tonnes.
Karachi’s Commercial and Industrial LPG Demand
Ali Haider also shared details about LPG consumption in Karachi. According to him, the commercial sector accounts for 40 percent of the city’s total LPG consumption.
Meanwhile, the industrial sector uses around 30 percent of the total supply. These figures highlight LPG’s importance for businesses and industrial activities in the city.
Any significant changes in LPG prices could affect commercial operations and industrial costs. Improved supply may help ease these pressures if the expected price reduction takes place.
Ali Haider Questions OGRA’s Pricing Formula
The LPG Standing Committee Convener also criticised the pricing formula used by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
Ali Haider argued that LPG prices should be reviewed weekly instead of monthly. He believes a weekly pricing mechanism would allow prices to respond more quickly to market changes.
Monthly price adjustments may not immediately reflect changes in supply and demand. A weekly review could provide a more responsive system for consumers and businesses.
The expected arrival of Iranian LPG tankers has raised hopes of lower prices across Pakistan. Consumers will be watching the market closely over the next two days.

If the anticipated reduction materialises, households and businesses could benefit from improved supply and lower fuel costs.
