Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a major gas and condensate discovery at the Bitrism East-1 well in Sindh. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a significant addition to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves.
The Bitrism East-1 well is located in district Khairpur under the Bitrism Exploration License. OGDC holds a 95% working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) owns 5%. The well was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation.
According to OGDC, the well was drilled using in-house technical expertise in collaboration with GHPL. Wireline log results confirmed hydrocarbon presence, leading to two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) in the Lower Goru Formation. Tests were conducted on both the Massive Sand and Basal Sand zones.
The results confirmed hydrocarbons, with a combined production potential of 22.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 690 barrels of condensate per day (BCD) at a 32/64” choke. This condensate discovery is expected to strengthen OGDC’s reserves and contribute to the country’s energy needs.
Officials noted that the condensate discovery highlights OGDC’s commitment to increasing Pakistan’s self-reliance in energy. The addition of new reserves will help reduce dependence on imports and narrow the energy supply-demand gap.
Industry experts believe the discovery could support Pakistan’s long-term energy security. By tapping into indigenous resources, the country can improve energy sustainability and reduce its reliance on external supplies.
OGDC stated that the Bitrism East-1 well is another milestone in its exploration efforts. The company reaffirmed its focus on expanding exploration activities across the country to secure more hydrocarbon reserves.
This latest condensate discovery is seen as a positive step for Pakistan’s energy sector, offering both economic and strategic benefits.
