Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully increased its daily oil output by 10,000 barrels by incorporating advanced technology across multiple wells, according to company officials.
The state-owned enterprise introduced Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) technology at 12 oil wells, preventing an annual decline of 5,000 barrels while simultaneously enhancing production from aging wells by an additional 5,000 barrels per day.

“Domestic oil production has surged from 26,000 barrels to 36,000 barrels daily due to this technological advancement,” an OGDCL representative stated. This substantial increase aligns with the company’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic energy resources.
As part of its future plans, OGDCL aims to further raise daily oil production to 50,000 barrels. The company has already initiated steps to integrate the technology at 14 more wells while assessing feasibility at 18 additional sites. Over the next two years, the technology will be deployed at 47 wells.
Company officials highlighted that the initiative was launched to counter an annual seven percent decline in oil and gas reserves. “The implementation of advanced technology was a strategic move to address depleting reserves,” a spokesperson explained.
Additionally, OGDCL is conducting parallel studies to apply similar technology in the gas sector. The company targets a production level of 1,000 MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) while taking measures to prevent further gas reserve depletion. Industry insiders report that other energy firms in the region are also exploring innovative methods to enhance production.
This technological advancement marks a significant step for Pakistan’s energy sector, reinforcing efforts to reduce reliance on imported fuel and strengthen local production capabilities.
