Pakistan and Azerbaijan Vow to Expand Coop in Trade and Investment

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, emphasized that the private sector is key to transforming strong diplomatic ties into robust economic partnerships. Speaking at an awareness session titled β€œOnline Trade Platform for Doing Business with Azerbaijan,” he highlighted that both countries are determined to expand coop across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and connectivity.

Ambassador Farhadov noted that increased air connectivityβ€”five weekly flights from Lahore and two from Islamabadβ€”is significantly boosting business and people-to-people exchanges. He added that flight frequency will soon increase, aiming to further enhance the current $100 million trade volume. The ambassador also thanked the Pakistani government, media, and people for their support during Azerbaijan’s conflict with Armenia.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood, President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), said Pakistan values its friendship with Azerbaijan and stressed the need to translate political goodwill into tangible economic outcomes. He highlighted the Pakistan–Azerbaijan Online Trade & Investment Platform, designed to connect exporters, importers, investors, and service providers from both nations. The platform will feature B2B matchmaking, e-contracting, secure payments, logistics integration, and virtual exhibitions to reduce transaction costs and eliminate physical barriers.

Waqar Zafar Bakhtawari, President of the Azerbaijan–Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industry, described the Chamber as an β€œeconomic bridge” and stressed its pivotal role in building sustainable trade and investment linkages. He emphasized that regular business-to-business engagement, joint trade exhibitions, and sector-specific collaborations are essential to unlock potential and expand coop.

Other speakers, including Tariq Sadiq, Babak Huseynli, and Agha Haider Zain, underscored Azerbaijan’s consistent diplomatic support and showcased digital platforms that can further promote trade and investment. ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub reaffirmed commitment to fast-track the Online Trade & Investment Platform, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity, trade, and shared prosperity.

The session concluded with a joint resolve to intensify efforts to expand coop between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, ensuring long-term economic growth and stronger bilateral ties.
