Is Pakistan Facing a Fuel Crisis? Diesel Shortage Sparks Alarm

ISLAMABAD โ€“ Pakistan is facing mounting concerns over a potential fuel crisis as petrol pump dealers report severe shortages of high-speed diesel across the country. The Petrol Pump Dealers Association has formally alerted the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) regarding the scarcity, urging immediate action.

According to the association, many petrol stations have been struggling with limited diesel supplies for over a week. Dealers warn that the allocated quotas are insufficient to meet daily demand, disrupting regular operations and making it difficult to maintain sales targets.

The shortage has forced vehicles to wait in long queues for hours at filling stations. Dealers fear that this may not be a natural shortage but a deliberate attempt to create an artificial scarcity of petroleum products. โ€œThis limited supply is affecting both consumers and transport businesses,โ€ a senior association official said.

Industry experts have warned that if the situation is not addressed promptly, it could escalate into a full-blown fuel crisis, affecting logistics, public transportation, and supply chains nationwide. The transport sector, which relies heavily on diesel, could face significant operational challenges, causing price hikes in goods and services.

The Petrol Pump Dealers Association has demanded urgent intervention from the authorities to ensure proper distribution and timely replenishment of stocks. Officials emphasize that without immediate corrective measures, the shortage could severely impact motorists and critical sectors dependent on diesel fuel.

Consumers have expressed growing frustration over long waiting times and inconsistent fuel availability. The crisis comes at a time when Pakistanโ€™s transport and industrial sectors are already under economic pressure, raising fears of further strain if the shortage continues.

Authorities are reportedly reviewing fuel supply logistics to prevent escalation, but petrol pump dealers insist that immediate relief is essential. A coordinated response is needed to prevent the current diesel scarcity from triggering a nationwide fuel crisis.
