Pakistan Sees Sharp Drop in Petrol and Diesel Sales in June 2026

Pakistan’s oil marketing companies recorded a major fall in fuel sales during June 2026. According to recent data, total petroleum sales dropped by 20 percent compared to the same month last year. The decline reflects weaker demand for both Petrol and Diesel across the country.

A report by Arif Habib Limited showed that total sales reached 1.26 million tons in June. This marks a significant drop from the previous year.

The biggest reason behind the decline was lower demand for motor spirit and high-speed diesel. Diesel sales fell by 20 percent year-on-year, reaching 500,000 tons. Petrol sales also dropped by 11 percent and stood at 650,000 tons.

At the same time, furnace oil sales saw a much sharper decline. The report stated that furnace oil sales fell by 68 percent to only 40,000 tons.

Experts said higher domestic diesel prices played a major role in reducing fuel demand. Another reason was the return of cross-border fuel smuggling, which affected the local market. These factors caused pressure on Petrol and Diesel sales during the month.

The report also explained that furnace oil demand stayed low because oil-based power plants generated less electricity. This reduced the need for furnace oil in the energy sector.

Despite the yearly drop, there was some improvement on a monthly basis. Total OMC sales rose by 7 percent compared to May 2026. This increase came after petroleum prices declined due to lower global crude oil prices and reduced regional tensions.

Petrol sales increased by 5 percent month-on-month, while diesel sales rose by 9 percent. Furnace oil showed the strongest monthly recovery, climbing 41 percent.

For the full fiscal year 2025-26, total sales remained almost unchanged at 16.19 million tons. Strong demand in the first nine months balanced weaker sales later.
