In August 2023, Pakistan witnessed a surge in mobile phone imports, with the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reporting a total of over Rs. 32.7 billion. This figure marked a substantial increase of 71 percent compared to the previous month, July 2023, which had imports valued at Rs. 19.1 billion.
Comparing this August’s imports to the same month in the previous fiscal year (FY24), the growth was even more significant, soaring by 135 percent from Rs. 13.9 billion in August 2022.

In terms of US dollars, August 2023 saw mobile phone imports totaling $111.34 million, indicating a 63 percent increase compared to July 2023 and a substantial 76 percent surge in contrast to August 2022.
Looking at the first two months of the current fiscal year, which includes July and August 2023, the combined mobile phone imports amounted to Rs. 51.85 billion. This figure reflects an impressive growth rate of 131 percent when compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, which had imports valued at Rs. 22.44 billion.
In dollar terms, the cumulative mobile phone imports for July and August 2023 reached $179.47 million, showcasing a substantial 76 percent increase compared to the imports of $101.86 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
