Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to increase in the upcoming fortnightly review due to rising international oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions. Analysts warn that consumers may feel the impact at fuel stations soon.
According to a report by brokerage firm Arif Habib Limited, the price of petrol could rise by as much as Rs6.80 per liter. If approved, the new petrol prices may reach approximately Rs263.30 per liter, up from the current Rs258.17 per liter.
High-speed diesel is also expected to see a significant increase. The projected rise is Rs6.80 per liter, which could push diesel prices to around Rs282.50 per liter. The last review had set diesel at Rs275.70 per liter.
Experts say the increase in petrol prices is largely due to a 2.7% rise in the Arab Light crude oil price. Import costs have also slightly increased, adding to the pressure on domestic fuel rates.
The government reviews fuel prices every fortnight, adjusting rates according to global crude prices and exchange rate fluctuations. Analysts note that recent geopolitical tensions in oil-producing regions have directly impacted crude supply and pricing.
Consumers are advised to prepare for the expected rise in petrol prices as it may affect transportation costs, goods pricing, and overall daily expenses. Many businesses are also monitoring the situation closely to adjust operational budgets accordingly.
The federal government continues to manage domestic fuel prices carefully, balancing market realities with public affordability. However, the persistent increase in international oil rates has limited the scope to keep prices stable.
If the proposed adjustments are approved, fuel stations across Pakistan will implement the new petrol prices immediately. Authorities are expected to notify the public officially after final approval.
The upcoming price review is likely to remain a key topic in media discussions and among commuters, as rising fuel costs directly influence transportation and consumer expenses nationwide.
