The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again stopped the accounts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to non-payment of dues, disrupting the national flag carrier’s flying schedule.
The PIA spokeswoman acknowledged the move, noting that negotiations with the FBR at the government level were still ongoing in order to restore accounts.

He stated that notwithstanding the closure of accounts, the airline continued to operate flights.
The national flag airline owes the government more almost Rs2 billion in taxes for the previous several months.
Last year, the airline’s 53 accounts were also suspended due to non-payment of dues, but were ultimately reinstated on promise of early payments.
Meanwhile, the PSO, according to sources, refused to deliver gasoline to the PIA, disrupting the schedule of its three flights.
Flights affected include the PK309 from Islamabad to Karachi, the PK330 from Karachi to Multan, and the PK739 from Multan to Jeddah.
Meanwhile, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued a tender notice for the services of a “well-reputed” cargo handling agent to handle its flights in Paris, raising optimism for the national flag carrier’s return to the European Union (EU).
According to sources, the PIA administration has begun making plans to resume flight operations at various EU destinations, commencing with France.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) declined to suspend the PIA’s travel ban to European countries and the United Kingdom on January 22 following an online assessment undertaken by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
