PSX Loses Over 1,200 Points As Market Turns Bearish

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) started the week on a negative note as the benchmark KSE-100 index fell sharply on Monday. PSX loses 1,237.66 points, marking a decline of 0.73 percent, and closed at 167,752.41 points compared to 168,990.07 points on the previous trading day.

The market witnessed reduced trading activity, with 1.27 billion shares traded compared to 1.57 billion a day earlier. The total value of shares stood at Rs60.54 billion, lower than Rs78.66 billion in the previous session.

Out of 487 companies that traded during the session, 108 posted gains, 348 suffered losses, while 31 remained unchanged. The drop indicates cautious investor sentiment amid uncertainty in economic indicators and global market trends.

Among the most active stocks, Bank of Punjab led with 131.31 million shares traded at Rs34.46 per share. K-Electric Ltd followed with 110.02 million shares at Rs7.02 per share, while Bank Makramah recorded 78.28 million shares at Rs8.29 per share.

Despite the overall downturn, a few companies managed to post gains. Sapphire Fibres Limited saw the highest increase of Rs75.96, closing at Rs1,442.75 per share. Siemens (Pakistan) Engineering also rose by Rs39.08 to settle at Rs1,602.43.

On the losing side, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited registered the biggest decline, dropping by Rs2,692.27 to close at Rs29,297.72 per share. PIA Holding Company Limited-B also fell significantly by Rs399.70, ending at Rs25,450.00.

Market analysts said PSX loses points mainly due to profit-taking and investor uncertainty over upcoming economic data. They added that improved clarity on monetary and fiscal developments could help stabilize the market in the coming sessions.
