In 2023, Pakistan’s seafood exports to China saw a notable increase of 13% compared to the previous year, reaching $247.3 million for the January-December period. This surge in exports reflects the growing demand for seafood products in China, a trend that has been steadily rising over recent years, according to Ghulam Qadir, the Investment and Trade Counsellor at the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing.
Qadir attributed this growth to several factors, including improved trade relations between Pakistan and China, active participation by Pakistani fisheries companies in the China Fisheries and Seafood Expo held in Qingdao, and the implementation of efficient supply chain management strategies within Pakistan’s seafood industry.

According to data from the General Administration of Customs of the Peopleโs Republic of China (GACC), frozen fish exports from Pakistan to China exceeded $60.63 million in 2023. Additionally, exports of fresh/chilled crabs increased to $42.59 million, while exports of frozen cuttlefish reached $34.93 million during the same period.
Qadir also noted that Pakistan hosted the International Food and Agriculture Exhibition in Karachi last year, which attracted a significant number of Chinese participants, particularly from the seafood association, aiming to explore opportunities in the Pakistani market.
This positive trajectory in seafood exports underscores the strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and China and presents opportunities for further collaboration and growth in the future.
