HEC Reveals Scholarships for Gilgit-Baltistan Students

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced scholarships for Gilgit-Baltistan students aiming to pursue undergraduate studies (4/5-year BS programs) at HEC-recognized public sector universities or degree-awarding institutions for the academic year 2024-25. This initiative, known as the “Undergraduate Scholarship Programme for Gilgit-Baltistan Students in Top Pakistani Universities/Institutions (Batch-IV),” covers all fields of study.

To be eligible, applicants must possess a Gilgit-Baltistan domicile/local certificate and have completed their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an equivalent qualification. Those already receiving other scholarships are not eligible. The age limit for applicants is 22 years as of the submission deadline, and they must meet both HEC and university admission criteria for BS programs.

The scholarship provides coverage for tuition fees, hostel fees, and other charges up to Rs. 240,000 per year, along with a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 and annual book and travel allowances of Rs. 30,000. Selection will be based on performance in the Aptitude Test by the Education Testing Council (ETC), HEC, and academic credentials. A minimum score of 50% is required on the test, which is valid for one year.

Applications must be submitted online through HEC’s portal by September 30, 2024, with a non-refundable fee of Rs. 500 deposited through Habib Bank Limited (HBL). Applicants should keep their application ID and payment receipt and include a scanned copy of the paid fee challan. The HEC reserves the right to cancel or postpone the scholarship process and advises candidates to regularly check their emails and HEC’s website for updates.
