Agha Murtaza Pooya, a respected political analyst and religious scholar, passed away in Karachi on Friday following a prolonged illness.
He had been receiving medical care at a private hospital for several weeks prior to his death.
Highly regarded in both political and religious spheres, Pooya held the position of federal minister and also led the Institute of Strategic Studies. He was recognized for his intellectual insight and active involvement in national affairs, especially during pivotal moments in Pakistan’s political landscape.

He also established and ran a well-known English-language newspaper, using it as a platform to shape public opinion and encourage thoughtful discussions on topics such as foreign policy, religious unity, and constitutional matters.
Murtaza Pooya was associated with the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), where he served as senior vice president. His role within the party highlighted his commitment to reform-oriented politics and religious engagement.
His funeral prayers will be offered today (Friday) after Juma prayers at Imambargah Sadiq G-9 in Islamabad, with attendance expected from prominent politicians, religious leaders, and members of civil society.
