UAE Implements AI as Mandatory School Subject for All Grades

The UAE Cabinet has approved a groundbreaking decision to make Artificial Intelligence (AI) a mandatory subject in all government schools, from kindergarten to Grade 12, starting in the next academic year.

This initiative, announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, is part of the country’s broader vision to prepare future generations for the technological advancements ahead.

The curriculum, developed by the Ministry of Education, will teach students about key concepts such as data, algorithms, machine learning, applications, and the social effects of AI, while also addressing ethical issues like data privacy and algorithm fairness.

This move positions the UAE as a global leader in AI education, setting it apart from countries like Singapore and the UK, which have introduced AI in specific subjects or frameworks.

The UAE’s approach, which includes a structured and age-appropriate curriculum, aims to not only equip students with technical skills but also foster critical thinking about the societal role of technology.
