FIA Declines Return of CDA's Files Amid Rs. 69 Billion Corruption Scandal

A major corruption scandal worth Rs. 69 billion has ignited a conflict between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in relation to CDA’s Land Department.

The federal authority has seized control of 1500 files from CDA’s Land Department and has refused requests from the civic authority for their return. Chairman CDA, Anwar ul Haq, has written to the DG FIA urging an expeditious inquiry and the return of the records to the CDA.

However, the FIA has rebuffed both requests, stating that their investigation will proceed according to the regular procedure.

This development comes as the federal authority has been probing a massive corruption scandal totaling Rs. 69 billion in the CDA’s Land Department over the past three months. In response to the scandal, CDA had previously removed Member State and other officials from their positions. Anwar ul Haq had subsequently sought FIA intervention to investigate the matter.
