Abdul Qadir Patel, Minister for National Health Services, claimed on Friday that alcohol and cocaine were found in urine samples taken from former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan after his arrest on May 9 by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
He claimed that shortly after the deposed premier’s arrest, a medical board was formed that included renowned psychologist Dr Rizwan Taj, orthopaedic medicine experts, and medico-legal specialists.
“On May 9, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi was brought before the medical board for questioning.” “He was intoxicated when he was arrested by NAB,” Patel claimed during a press conference in Islamabad.
The inclusion of renowned psychologists on the board, according to the health minister, was to address the anti-graft buster’s suspicions about Khan’s communication style and body language, which suggested possible mental stress.
According to Patel, the medical board determined Khan to be a “habitual user of illegal substances” due to the presence of alcohol and cocaine in his urine samples.
He stated that the board concluded that the PTI chief was under severe psychological pressure.
During the press conference, Qadi also handed out Imran Khan’s medical report, which stated: “The gentleman [Imran Khan] was examined and appears to be under stress with anxiety symptoms.” The events of the last few weeks caused widespread rage and anxiety. He had little understanding of the gravity and reality of the current situation. The mental stability is in doubt. Some inappropriate gestures were made.”
The final report, which includes the exact percentages of cocaine and alcohol found in Khan’s system, has yet to be released, according to the health minister.
“If the Supreme Court deems Imran Niazi mentally unstable, we will accept the court’s decision,” he added. He even suggested keeping the PTI chief “as a guest” at Hyderabad’s Giddu Bandar Mental Hospital.
According to the federal health minister, Imran Khan’s leg was hit by bullet fragments after the attack, and he plastered it, claiming it was a fracture. But there is no mention of a fracture in his leg in his medical reports, he maintained.
He also asked which plaster in the world remains on the leg for six months.
Patel stated that doctors who advised Khan to wear a plaster cast for six months would be summoned as well. “Who wears plaster for a bullet wound,” he wondered.
Meanwhile, Khan’s PTI has issued a rebuttal to Patel’s claims, vowing to sue the health minister.
“Imran has approved bringing the health minister, NAB, health ministry, and PIMS doctors to book,” the party said in a Twitter statement.
