Daily Mango Intake May Boost Heart Health, US Study Finds

A recent American study has found that eating mangoes regularly may offer significant cardiovascular benefits, especially for older women dealing with obesity. Researchers observed a notable drop in blood pressure and cholesterol levels in women aged 50 to 70 who consumed 350 grams of mango daily over two weeks.

The trial revealed improvements in vascular health, including reduced arterial stiffness and a 13-point decrease in cholesterol levels. These effects were attributed to mangoes’ natural fibre, antioxidants, and polyphenols.

Participants who paired mangoes with white bread experienced less of a blood sugar spike compared to those who consumed white bread alone, further highlighting mango’s potential benefits.

While researchers call for broader, long-term studies, the results support growing evidence that fruit-based diets may aid in managing chronic conditions like hypertension and high cholesterol.
