DRAP warns public against unregistered and fake medicines

ISLAMABAD – The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a strong warning about the circulation of medicines fake in the market. According to DRAP, these products are being manufactured and distributed by entities that are not registered or licensed under its authority.

This means the producers of these medicines fake have bypassed all regulatory checks for quality, safety, and effectiveness. Laboratory testing has shown that some of these products lack active pharmaceutical ingredients, making them useless for treatment and potentially dangerous for patients.

In its statement, DRAP cautioned that the use of falsified or unregulated medicines could lead to treatment failure, worsening of diseases, or even life-threatening consequences.

To tackle the issue, the Regulatory Field Force has been instructed to conduct market surveillance and seize any stocks of unregistered and falsified drugs. Pharmacists, chemists, distributors, and healthcare professionals have been told to check their inventories immediately. They are also required to provide supplier details to the authorities for further action.

Consumers have been urged not to purchase or use any of the listed medicines fake. Those who have already used them and experienced side effects or health complications should seek medical help right away. Such cases should also be reported to DRAP or the National Pharmacovigilance Centre through official reporting channels.

DRAP stressed that public cooperation is vital to remove these harmful products from circulation. It also reminded healthcare providers to stay vigilant and only source medicines from verified suppliers to ensure patient safety.

Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in manufacturing or selling unregistered and falsified medicines in Pakistan.
