First case of monkeypox has been reported by National Institute of Health in Karachi.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed that monkeypox, a rare viral disease akin to smallpox, has been reported in Pakistan for the first time.

The patient is a young boy who was just admitted to Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after travelling abroad. In some circumstances, monkeypox can be lethal and result in fever, rash, and skin lesions. Although it can spread from person to person, the virus is primarily spread to humans through contact with infected animals like rodents and monkeys.
