A KFC outlet at the Sukheki Motorway Service Area has been sealed by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) after inspectors found several food safety and hygiene violations during a surprise visit.
The inspection was carried out as part of the Punjab government’s ongoing Safe Food campaign. The initiative, launched under the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to improve food safety standards across restaurants and food businesses in the province.
According to the Punjab Food Authority, the KFC branch was found using food items that did not meet the required quality standards. Inspectors also discovered that the outlet was using unfiltered water during food preparation. In addition, food was being stored in poor hygienic conditions.
Officials said the inspection revealed several breaches of the authority’s food safety regulations. These violations were considered serious enough to require immediate action against the restaurant.
Following the inspection, the Punjab Food Authority sealed the KFC outlet and imposed a heavy fine. Authorities stated that the restaurant will remain closed until all violations are corrected. The outlet must also meet all required food safety standards before it can reopen.
The PFA said the business will only be allowed to resume operations after a complete inspection confirms full compliance with the authority’s regulations. Officials stressed that public health and food safety remain their highest priorities.
The authority also warned restaurant owners and food businesses across Punjab to strictly follow hygiene and food quality rules. It said legal action will be taken against any outlet found violating food safety laws.
The Punjab Food Authority has increased inspections in recent months under the Safe Food initiative. Inspection teams are visiting restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries, and service area food outlets to ensure consumers receive safe and hygienic meals.
Food safety officials said maintaining clean kitchens, using safe ingredients, and following proper storage methods are essential for protecting public health. They added that businesses must regularly improve their hygiene practices to meet the required standards.
