The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has announced that citizens and businesses in Lahore will soon pay sanitation fees for garbage collection.
According to company officials, the new billing system will begin next week, starting from posh neighborhoods and busy commercial markets. Fees will be charged on a per-marla basis and later extended to all nine towns of the provincial capital.
“The bills will be delivered through revenue and field supervisors,” an LWMC official stated. Payments can be made both at banks and through online cash applications for public convenience.
As per the company’s policy, buildings in urban areas sized between five to 40 marlas will be charged Rs300 to Rs5,000. In rural areas, the same property sizes will face fees ranging from Rs200 to Rs400.
Officials explained that the new initiative aims to improve waste collection services and ensure cleaner surroundings across Lahore. The decision is also expected to help reduce the financial burden on the government by involving residents in maintaining sanitation standards.
An LWMC spokesperson clarified that the system will only be enforced after final approval from the provincial cabinet. Once implemented, all households, businesses, and commercial setups in Lahore will be required to pay the sanitation fee regularly.
Authorities believe the move will encourage shared responsibility for cleanliness and enhance waste management efficiency. Residents have been advised to stay updated about the new billing process to avoid inconvenience.
The LWMC stressed that the introduction of sanitation fees is an important step toward sustainable waste management in Lahore. The company aims to provide better services and ensure a healthier environment for the city’s growing population.
