The Directorate of Drug Control Punjab has ordered an immediate halt to several batches of an injectable medicine.
The decision follows concerns over sterility and manufacturing compliance. Authorities said the affected batches may pose a public health risk.
The alert involves Injection Pd-Meek 1 mL. The medicine contains Mecobalamin 500mcg/mL. It carries registration number 040562.
According to the public notice, the Drugs Testing Laboratory Punjab had previously declared the product “Adulterated and Standard.”
Affected Pd-Meek Batches Recalled
The authorities have started a recall of five affected batches. These include:
- MC26020
- MC26021
- MC26022
- MC26023
- MC26024
The action was taken after a detailed inspection of the manufacturing facility.
Drug inspectors found a major issue during the inspection. The affected batches entered the supply chain before mandatory sterility testing was completed.
Authorities said this practice violates applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
As a result, the sterility and quality of the affected batches cannot currently be confirmed. Their safety and efficacy also remain uncertain.
Punjab Alerts Pharmacies and Healthcare Facilities
The Provincial Quality Control Board Punjab has ordered the stoppage to remain effective.
The alert will continue until the ongoing investigation is completed. Further instructions will then be issued by the relevant authorities.
Pharmacies and medical stores have been directed to stop selling the affected batches immediately.
Wholesalers, distributors and healthcare facilities must also stop handling the medicines. They cannot purchase, dispense, distribute or use the affected stock.
The Punjab Alerts also require all holders to quarantine their existing supplies.
The affected medicines must be kept separately from other stock. Their inventory must also be reported to the relevant drug inspector.
Healthcare facilities have been asked to coordinate with their drug inspectors regarding available stock.
Regulatory Action Under Drug Laws
Drug inspectors across Punjab have been directed to ensure full implementation of the alert.
Authorities must also secure the affected medicine according to applicable regulations.
The action will be carried out under the Drugs Act 1976 and DRAP Act 2012. Related rules and regulatory requirements will also apply.
The Punjab Alerts are intended to prevent further distribution or use of the affected batches.
