A recent study from West Virginia University has raised alarms by revealing that vaping is more addictive and mentally satisfying than nicotine gum, especially for young adults aged 18 to 24. This discovery adds to growing concerns over the rising use of e-cigarettes among youth, including those who have never smoked traditional cigarettes.
The research involved 16 young participants who were either former smokers or recent quitters. After an overnight nicotine fast, they either vaped or chewed nicotine gum for 30 minutes the next morning. Results showed that vaping significantly reduced nicotine cravings and provided greater mental satisfaction compared to nicotine gum.

Experts highlight that modern e-cigarettes deliver nicotine in a smoother, less bitter way, making them more appealing and easier to become dependent on. Initially marketed as a smoking cessation aid, e-cigarettes have now become popular among non-smokers, fueling a new wave of nicotine addiction.
In light of these findings, the UK government plans to ban disposable vape devices and restrict flavors to curb usage among young people. The study underscores the urgent need for stronger regulations to protect youth from emerging health risks.
