Indonesia loses FIFA U20 World Cup hosting rights after refusing to host Israel.

FIFA has decided to move the Under-20 FIFA World Cup 2023 from Indonesia due to the country’s refusal to host the mega event. According to reports, FIFA will now select a new host for the World Cup, which was originally scheduled to begin on 20 May.

The decision was made in response to Indonesia’s refusal to host Israel in solidarity with Palestine. A large number of people took to the streets to protest Israel’s participation in the tournament, which resulted in the country losing its hosting rights.

“FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023,” FIFA stated in a press release.

“A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the dates of the tournament currently remaining unchanged. Potential sanctions against the PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) may also be decided at a later stage,” the statement further read.

The decision’s consequences could be disastrous for Indonesian football. While the country’s Football Board will suffer significant financial losses, the Indonesian football team may suffer long-term consequences as a result of FIFA’s sanctions.

FIFA will reveal the final details of the tournament in due course. Similarly, the extent of punishment and sanctions imposed on Indonesian football will be clarified in the coming weeks.
