Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and his wife, author Twinkle Khanna, had a narrow escape on Monday night after their convoy was involved in a road accident in Mumbai. The incident took place shortly after the couple returned to the city from an overseas trip.
The accident occurred around 9 p.m. near the Silver Beach café area in Juhu. The location was already crowded due to a nearby event attended by Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Heavy traffic and congestion were reported at the time.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding Mercedes first hit an auto rickshaw on the busy road. The impact pushed the auto into a vehicle from Akshay Kumar’s security convoy. That vehicle then collided with the actor’s SUV, creating a chain reaction.
Akshay and Twinkle remain safe
Sources confirmed that Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were travelling in a separate car ahead of the convoy. Their vehicle suffered only a minor impact during the incident.
Both were reported to be safe and did not sustain any injuries. Security officials quickly assessed the situation and ensured the couple was moved away from the scene.
The incident happened soon after the couple landed in Mumbai. They were returning home from the airport following a private trip abroad. The trip was reportedly to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
Auto rickshaw severely damaged
The auto rickshaw involved in the accident was badly crushed. Witnesses said the driver and one passenger were briefly trapped inside the vehicle.
Several bystanders gathered at the spot as the situation unfolded. According to eyewitness accounts, Akshay Kumar stepped out of his car to assist. He reportedly helped his security team lift the damaged auto rickshaw to rescue those trapped inside.
One witness described the moment as frightening but said relief followed quickly. “It looked serious, but thankfully no one was badly hurt,” the witness said.
Police confirm no serious injuries
Police officials later confirmed that no serious injuries were reported. This included the auto rickshaw driver and the passenger. Both were given immediate assistance at the scene.
Traffic in the area was disrupted for a short time. Police and traffic officials worked together to clear the road. Normal traffic flow was restored soon after.
Authorities are reviewing the incident to determine the cause of the speeding vehicle. No further details were shared at this stage.
