A court has disposed of the bail pleas filed by PML-N lawmaker Saqib Chadhar and his wife. The petitions were withdrawn following a statement from the investigating officer.
During the hearing, the investigating officer briefed the court about the latest developments. He said the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had changed its investigation.
The officer also informed the court that the agency did not currently require custody of the suspects. Following the statement, Chadhar and his wife requested permission to withdraw their petitions.
The court accepted their request and disposed of the bail pleas as withdrawn. The decision came after the investigating agency indicated that their custody was not presently required.
Cyber Crime Case Against Saqib Chadhar
The NCCIA registered the case against Saqib Chadhar under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
The case involves allegations of cyber harassment, blackmail and threats against actress Momina Iqbal. The allegations were made in a complaint submitted to the relevant authorities.
According to the complaint, Iqbal accused the lawmaker of harassment and blackmail. She also alleged that she received death threats.
The actress claimed Chadhar made threatening calls to her and her fiancé. She said the alleged harassment intensified after she rejected his marriage proposal.
Iqbal further claimed that she later discovered Chadhar was already married. She alleged that he subsequently began contacting and threatening her.
Allegations Include Messages and Video Calls
In her complaint, Iqbal referred to WhatsApp messages and video calls allegedly sent by Chadhar.
She also claimed that threatening messages were sent to her sister’s mobile phone. The allegations formed part of the cyber crime complaint investigated by the NCCIA.
The allegations remain claims made in the complaint. They have not been established as facts through a final court judgment.
The withdrawal of the bail pleas does not itself determine the merits of the allegations. Further developments in the case will depend on the investigation and legal proceedings.
