‘The Obsession with Pakistan is Real’: Bollywood Movie Dhurandhar Gets Backlash for Showing Lyari in a Negative Light

‘The Obsession with Pakistan is Real’: Bollywood Movie Dhurandhar Gets Backlash for Showing Lyari in a Negative Light

Bollywood’s upcoming film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has grabbed attention for its intense action scenes and star-studded cast. The movie features Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy and Sanjay Dutt portraying Pakistan’s late SSP Chaudhry Aslam.

While Dhurandhar claims to be inspired by real events, critics argue that its storyline is largely fictional. The film reshapes Karachi’s Lyari gang war and centers it around Indian espionage, drawing criticism for exaggeration and historical inaccuracies.

In the movie, Rahman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna, is shown with alleged links to Indian intelligence. However, in reality, Dakait had no connection to India. Dhurandhar presents Ranveer Singh’s character, Major Mohit Sharma, unleashing violent action with the Lyari gang, creating a plot that many consider unrealistic.

The trailer of Dhurandhar highlights gruesome violence, showcasing Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal and R. Madhavan as Ajit Doval. Scenes include exaggerated depictions of Karachi neighborhoods and political events, including a PPP rally with a Benazir Bhutto poster. Critics note that the visuals prioritize spectacle over factual storytelling.

Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of Chaudhry Aslam, a real-life Pakistani police officer, adds to the film’s controversial angle. While Bollywood often features Pakistan-focused plots, Dhurandhar has been criticized for distorting real events and creating misleading narratives for dramatic effect.

Despite the controversy, audiences are showing strong interest in Dhurandhar due to its high-octane action, prominent cast, and scenic visuals. The film is set to release this December, promising both entertainment and debate among fans of political thrillers.

While the movie offers thrilling visuals and action-packed sequences, its lack of adherence to factual history highlights Bollywood’s recurring trend of blending reality with exaggerated fiction.
