At an event held at the Governor House on October 5, renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue with Pakistani actress Yashma Gill, addressing the complex concept of free will in Islam. The event, part of Dr. Naik’s tour of Pakistan, attracted a large audience eager to hear his insights.
During the session, Yashma Gill shared her personal journey of rediscovering faith after a period of atheism, deeply influenced by Dr. Naik’s speeches. She posed a significant question about predestination, asking, “If Allah has already written our destiny, where does free will come into play?”

Dr. Naik responded thoughtfully, explaining that while Allah knows the future and the choices individuals will make, it is ultimately humans who exercise free will in their decisions. “It is not that humans do what Allah has decreed, but rather that Allah knows what they will choose,” he clarified, emphasizing that God’s knowledge does not negate human responsibility.
He used an analogy of standing at a crossroads to illustrate the point, highlighting that while Allah knows the path one will take, the choice remains with the individual. This explanation resonated with the audience, offering clarity on a topic that often puzzles many.
